Quick take: texture is gelatinous, expensive
The steak has been one of the more elusive products to veganize. So when I caught wind of Offbeast, I immediately ordered a combo ribeye and steak cubes pack ($79.99).

I will say the packaging and the ads set the bar pretty high.

Here are the steaks, which looked promising, with the marbling and all. The main ingredients are seitan and vegetable protein.

The steak cubes appear to have less marbling, and we started with this. At this point unfortunately, we have to report that the product was a let down. The texture is off, and oddly gelatinous and chewy at the same time.

Luckily Hipster 2 is a great cook, and added some onions and chipotle chilis in adobo sauce.

They make decent tacos though, but how much of that is the salsas?

This has nothing to do with Offbeast, but this home made elote style corn saved the day. Freshly boiled corn on the cob, mayo, and chili lime seasoning from Trader Joe’s.
I didn’t take pictures of the steaks themselves when we cooked them but the marbling had a weird texture and overall the product wasn’t what we had hoped for.
Ratings:
Hipster 1: 1/10 – bad, texture way off
Hipster 2: 2/10 – will not order again
